CREATIVE VISUALIZATION Creative visualization is using your imagination to create your ‘desired situations’ in your mind. Follow these four steps:
1. Find a quiet place and begin simple relaxation, breathing deeply and slowly with your eyes closed. 2. Start with a simple, short term goal. 3. Create in your mind a picture of the situation as it is in the present moment. 4. Focus on this picture. Visualize if often. And visualize the positive of the situation. Keep working on the visualization until you achieve your goal. You must want the goal to be, you must believe it can happen to you, and accept it when it comes to pass. Practice visualizing the following situation. You have difficulty at parties controlling the amount of appetizers you eat. You have a party coming up on Friday, and know you can beat this. Try visualizing yourself at the party, walking pass the buffet table, viewing the food, selecting a small plate and putting just a few appetizers on the plate, then walking away from the table - not to return all night. Now focus on the positive results of your walking away - the feeling of being in control and using sound judgment. End with a positive affirmation - “I can select smaller portions of higher calorie foods when I am at a party”. What other situations could you benefit from using creative visualization? Follow the visualization through just as we did above.
