WHEN TO EAT?

When to eat depends upon whether you are a morning or evening person.

The Morning Person:

If you are a morning person, your energy burst is greatest in the early part of the day and diminishes as afternoon and evening approaches.  Carbohydrate would be the best choice for breakfast, followed by carbohydrate for a midmorning snack plus foods high in simple sugar.  For lunch, eat carbohydrate and fat for serotonin and endorphin production, and protein for catecholamine production.  A mid afternoon snack should consist of carbohydrate and protein, the protein being for alertness, as well as dinner.

The Evening Person:

The evening person gets their energy burst in the later part of the day and needs revving up in the morning.  Therefore, foods that provide carbohydrate and protein should be provided as well as at the midmorning snack.  Lunch is the same as for the morning person - carbohydrate and fat for serotonin and endorphin production and protein for catecholamine production.  A mid afternoon snack should consist of carbohydrate, or carbohydrate and sugar since this is the time when your alertness is peaked and you may want to feel a sense of calmness.  Carbohydrate should also be provided in an evening snack.
